I’ve mentioned before that an NBA player once told me that he felt he played better high, and a few other players felt that way. So the fact that a few NFL players may have gotten smoked weed prior to the Super Bowl, obviously the biggest game of most players careers, isn’t shocking to me.
Former Ravens and Bears linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo revealed during a podcast for Fox Sports, that some of his teammates smoked marijuana prior to playing in one of his two Super Bowl appearances.
Ayanbadejo played for the Bears in 2006 for Super Bowl XLI and the Ravens in last season’s big game, but didn’t say which team the incident took place with.
“I’m not going to say which Super Bowl it was, but I just remember getting off the elevator one night — it was early on in the [Super Bowl] week, just to start the week off — and all of the sudden I just got hit over the head with fumes of marijuana on the entire floor of the hotel that the team was staying on. … I could just imagine there were a few young guys just toking it up in more than one room.”
was like, ‘Man, this is the week of the Super Bowl and you’re just going in?’” Ayanbadejo said. “So then I was looking around, and I’m like ‘OK, where is the security?’ I looked and for some reason we didn’t have regular police. Coach was smart enough to have rent-a-cops on our floor instead of regular police like we usually do.”
Considering that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said he is open to discussing the merits of medical marijuana for pain in the NFL at some point, perhaps this is something
