49’ers QB Colin Kaepernick Says He’s Received Death Threats

San Francisco 49’ers QB Colin Kaepernick began a silent protest during preseason by opting not to stand for the National Anthem. Since then we have seen more NFL players and athletes across soccer, college and high school prorams follow suit. That choice has not been without detractors and now, per ESPN.com’s Nick Wagoner, Kaepernick has begun receiving “death threats via multiple means since he began his protest of racial inequality and oppression.”

Wagoner said that Kaepernick has not informed 49ers security about the threats because his feeling is “if something were to happen to him, it would only be proving his point.”

Since the 49ers’ final preseason game against the San Diego Chargers,Kaepernick has taken a knee as the national anthem plays as a means of protesting various racial and social injustices happening in the United States.

On Aug. 26, Kaepernick addressed what he is trying to accomplish with his protest after it was revealed he sat on the bench prior to a preseason game against the Green Bay Packers.

In addition to taking a knee, the Sacramento Bee, reports Kaepernick will donate $100,000 per month over the next 10 months as part of his previous pledge to donate $1 million to various organizations that help communities in need. He also plans to offer full transparency to those who donate via a website set up to track how the money is used.
