Saturday night Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose wore an “I Can’t Breathe” T-shirt in pregame warm-ups before the game against the Golden State Warriors.

On the heels of the decision not to prosecute officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson for the shooting death of an unarmed black teen, another Grand Jury  decided Wednesday that it would not indict the officer in the death of Eric Garner. Garner was a  New York man who died in July after a police officer placed him in a chokehold while he was being arrested for selling loose, untaxed cigarettes.

A video of the arrest showed Garner gasping for air, with his last words being “I can’t breathe,” during the fatal encounter. There have been protests across the nation, and the world to show black lives matter.

Rose, a Chicago native, has been involved with initiatives to help Chicago youth. Derrick participated in several events aimed at awareness for the many teens that are losing their lives to violence in the city. Last summer he donated $1 million to After School Matters, a Chicago-based nonprofit organization that helps teenagers.
