NFL DE Jason Paul-Pierre Reportedly Had Right Middle finger Amputated

John-Paul-Pierre

Bad news regarding NFL free agent defensive end Jason Paul-Pierre. It was reported over the fourth of July holiday that JPP suffered a serious injury to his hand while lighting fireworks.

His exact condition was being kept tightly under wraps. Even New York Giants brass who flew down to Miami were turned away without even seeing him

The Giants work regularly with New York-area physicians who are considered among the finest in their fields and have used those relationships in the past to facilitate treatment for their players. In 2010, they consulted with the family of Chad Jones, who nearly lost his leg in a car accident, and suggested Jones be transferred to the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan. There, Jones underwent several more procedures. The Giants have offered to provide similar services for Pierre-Paul, who is not under contract with the team right now because he has yet to sign his franchise tender. Sources say Pierre-Paul’s family and representatives have declined the help to this point. The team and Pierre-Paul’s agent, Eugene Parker, have declined to comment on the situation.

JPP had a $15 million contract offer from the Giants that he had yet to sign.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter obtained Pierre-Paul’s hospital chart – something I would think is a HIPAA violation, but I’m sure the details on who leaked what will come out soon – that indicated he would be having his right index finger removed.

He’s not the only NFL player that lost a finger because of a fireworks accident this past weekend.  Tampa Bay Bucs cornerback CJ Wilson lost two fingers in a fourth of July fireworks accident.
