New York Jets DE Sheldon Richardson was charged with resisting arrest after he was spotted driving 143 miles per hour in his Bentley, with a gun and three other passengers- one of which was a 12-year-old- in the car with him.
The incident happened two weeks ago in Richardson’s home town of St. Charles County, Missouri. Per USA Today, It started out as a race between Richardson and another car. He was clocked at speeds of 122, 135 and 143 miles per hour. Richardson ran a red light after officers flashed their lights.
There was a loaded gun and the car reportedly smelled of weed smoke. On July 3rd it was announced that Richardson was suspended four games for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy for marijuana use.
The incident managed to remain underwraps for two weeks, but was uncovered after Richardson gave this answer to a question about his suspension.
“I’m not a dope fiend,” Richardson said. “I can say no. I just chose not to. I was in a depressing time in my offseason and that’s just it. It’s just that simple. There’s money on the line and my money is worth more than some weed.”
