The New England Patriots have signed CB Darrelle Revis. Revis was cut by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Wednesday, right before a bonus was due to kick in on his contract. Revis spent one season with the Bucs. In addition to saving money, the Bucs also avoided sending Revis’ old team, the New York Jets, a third-round pick stemming from his trade from the Jets to the Bucs last season
The Pats signed Revis to a one-year, $12 million contract. That’s a $4 million discount from his 2013 salary of $16 million. So far, Revis looks like one of the few players whose managed to take advantage of the NFL’s new contracts. Revis is earning NBA money – on average $13 million per season – which is rare in today’s NFL. I should also remind you that he’s only 28.
