NFL prospect Missouri DE Michael Sam announced he was gay on Sunday. His reasoning was that he wanted to tell his story in his own words. While some current NFL players were extremely supportive on Twitter, former Dallas Cowboys WR Patrick Clayton wasn’t as excited about the revelation. Clayton started his objections with, “there goes the NFL”

Crayton is probably expressing sentiments that similar players and fans feel.S.I. spoke with various coaches and execs who felt this will impact his draft stock and the NFL culture. But it’s a new day in 2014 and tolerance has come along way.
