This season for the Jets has been one long roller coaster ride. Currently riding the bottom of the AFC East standings at 3-6. The Jets haven’t won a game in 3 weeks. And just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse, an anonymous player had a few unkind remarks to make about back-up QB Tim Tebow which of course started a mini media firestorm. Ok really just ESPN cause you know Skip loves him, I wonder what the Odds to win are in Vegas on the amount of times Skip mentions Tebow on “First Take.”
But back to the matter at hand. Former Jets player and current Sirius/XM radio show host, LaDainian Tomlinson believes he knows exactly who made the remarks. Bart Scott and Antonio Cromartie:
“Cromartie has never had a problem putting his name on things,” Tomlinson said on his show. “. . . Once you start talking to the media about teammates, Rex is going to address it. He’s not going to let it go. And so, now you have guys that don’t want to put your name on it because, obviously, Rex Ryan has said something about it.”
Bart Scott has since responded, denying that he made an comments about Tebow.
“That can’t be farther from the truth,” Scott said Thursday, via the New York Post. “One thing about me is I ain’t ever hid behind (junk) that I’ve ever said. I’m not afraid to put my name to it. Go to a person and say it to them.
“LaDainian is out of line in thinking I have that type of character. I don’t know what he believes I showed to him when he was here. If anything, I hope I showed him I was a leader and I never try to be a distraction.”
Antonio Cromartie also released a statement via ESPN New York with his response effectively putting Tomlinson in his place.
I interviewed Cromartie over the summer, he indicated that he was initially unsure about Tebow but had a change of heart. Granted that was before the actual season started but, it’s not Tebow’s fault they aren’t winning games.
Rex Ryan has come out and called the action cowardly and planned to deal with the team:
“I think it’s a cowardly thing if you’re not going to put your name to it,” Ryan said. “That’s about as cowardly of a thing as there is.”
It should be pointed out that one player, Matt Slauson, went on the record with his comments about Tebow. But nobody is interested in what’s being said on the record.
