The Atlanta Hawks have a new GM. Danny Ferry takes over the reigns as of July 1st leaving his former post as assistant GM for the Spurs. Taking over for Rick Sund, Ferry will serve in a dual capacity as GM and President of basketball operations.
Ferry’s previous executive experience came as the GM of the Cleveland Cavliers during the LeBron years (from ’05-’10 including an ’07 finals appearance.) Ferry also played with both the Spurs and Cavs franchises during his playing days.
He’ll have a lot of work to do with the Hawks. The team only has 6 players under contract for the upcoming season, Josh Smith’s pending free agency, the mammoth contract of Joe Johnson and the 23rd pick in Thursday’s draft.
