Michael Sam’s time as a member of the Dallas Cowboys has come to an end. Sam was cut from the practice squad Tuesday to sign linebacker Troy Davis.
Sam, the first openly gay player in the NFL, was drafted to the St. Louis Rams and spent preseason with them before being waived. He’s never taken a snap in an NFL game, with his lone highlight coming in preseason when he sacked Cleveland Browns rookie Johnny Manziel.
Sam took to Twitter to express his gratitude for the experience and to assure his fans this isn’t the end of his NFL dream.
I want to thank the Jones family and the entire Cowboys organization for this opportunity, as well as my friends, family, teammates, (1/3)

and fans for their support. While this is disappointing, I will take the lessons I learned here in Dallas and continue to fight for an (2/3)
