Dwight Howard planning to work with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

The Los Angeles Lakers have legacy of great centers. With the trade for Dwight Howard, that tradition continues. Dwight announced over the weekend that once he’s cleared with doctors, he’ll be working out with Lakers legend, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Abdul-Jabbar worked with Andrew Bynum, who was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers last month in the four-team deal that brought Howard to Los Angeles, as a special assistant coach from 2005-09. The two fell out of favor in 2009, when Bynum reportedly told Phil Jackson and the Lakers’ coaching staff that he no longer wanted to work with the Hall of Fame center.

The two had never met before so over the weekend they met up and of course documented the moment for their Twitter followers. But Dwight Howard isn’t the only big man who’ll benefit this season from Abdul-Jabbar’s tutelage. Chicago Bulls player Joakim Noah worked out with Capt this summer using yoga.
