The Texas Rangers are bankrupt but that hasn’t stopped Alex Rodriguez from filing an objection against the club in bankruptcy court this week.
ARod is owed $24.9 million in deferred compensation by the Rangers, who traded him to the Yankees in 2004. The club voluntarily pushed themselves into bankruptcy in May to help speed the sale of the team, guess who was listed as the largest unsecured creditor??
The filing stated that clubs are supposed to maintain a fund for deferred compensation. But, Rodriguez filing believes that no such escrow account exists.
ARod isn’t the only player on the list. In addition to him, Kevin Millwood, is owed $12.9 million; Michael Young ($3.9 million); and Vicente Padilla, Mickey Tettleton and Mark McLemore.
