Brooklyn Nets Owner Interested In Listening To Offers For Team

Mikhail-Prokhorov

With the $2 billion price tag the Clippers served up on the open market recently, you can bet a few owners are thinking about what number their own franchise might vet if they were to sell. Brooklyn Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov is said to be listening to offers.

“Just listening so far,” a league official with direct knowledge told Yahoo Sports. “They haven’t indicated a desire or willingness to sell. …Nothing was initiated by [Prokhorov].”

Prokhorov owns 85% of the Nets plus 45% of Barlays Center. He purchased his share of the team in 2010 and has been aggressive in his pursuit of a title by wallet. Prokhorov has run the Nets’ payroll to record levels, including $190 million in salary and luxury tax for the 2013-14 season.

We’ll see if he holds steady or takes the money and runs. By now he sees that securing an NBA championship isn’t as easy as the Heat have made it look.
