Earlier in the year it was announced that the Lakers would be retiring Shaquille O’Neal’s jersey. April 2, 2013 during halftime of Lakers vs. Mavericks, Shaq becomes just the ninth player to have his jersey retired. Shaq rocked 34 during his tenure with the Lakers that began via free agency in 1996 spending eight seasons with the franchise and earning three NBA titles, three finals MVP awards and one MVP award.
His stats? O’Neal averaged 27 points, 11.8 rebounds and 2.49 blocked shots in his time with the Lakers. By comparison, the newest Laker center, Dwight Howard has been in the league 8 seasons, his averages 18.4 points, 13 rebounds and 2.2 blocks.
Also being honored this season, Jamaal Wilkes, whose also being inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame this year.
