Dwyane Wade to miss the Olympics due to knee surgery

Dwyane Wade’s tenure as an Olympian has ended. The newly crowned NBA champ will not be with USA basketball this summer in London. Wade was battling a knee injury for the bulk of the playoffs and has informed USA Basketball Chairman Jerry Colangelo and coach Mike Krzyzewski that he’ll be having knee surgery in early July.

Wade’s agent, Henry Thomas, told FOX Sports Florida his client’s surgery will be July 9 and will be performed by Heat team doctor Harlan Selesnick. Colangelo said Wade told him the recovery process will be four-to-six weeks.

Before this, Wade was already leaning toward possibly not participating this summer due to daddy duties so, I’m not surprised. Clearly he wasn’t 100% in the playoffs but LeBron finally found his leader gene and pushed through. Plus, an injured DWade is better than what James had when he was with he Cavs. Wade has a bronze medal from the 2004 games and a gold medal from the 2008 “redeem” team. Plus his second title this year. Not bad.
