Shaq to interview for Orlando Magic GM job

Guess whose said to be interviewing for the vacant Orlando Magic GM job? None other than the original Magic “Superman,” Shaquille O’Neal.

O’Neal, who began his legendary NBA career in Orlando, may meet with the Magic as soon as next week, sources told ESPN The Magazine’s Chris Broussard. While he has no front office experience, the Magic believe O’Neal’s presence within the organization could help them retain Dwight Howard. …. In fact, O’Neal has often been a confidante for Howard during this trying season in Orlando. …. If O’Neal were to be hired by the Magic, the organization would likely bring in a more experienced basketball executive to work alongside him.

Interesting considering some of the war of words Shaq and Dwight have had over the Superman moniker, coupled with how Shaq left Orlando that fateful summer in 1996. But what Shaq does have is a lot of business experience as well as a PHD. Perhaps he’ll get to put that skill set to work in a basketball setting. He can’t be any worse than the previous GM, right? But will players respect him in an official capacity?
