Former Knicks legend, Patrick Ewing has reached agreement to become the associate head coach for the Charlotte Bobcats per Yahoo Sports. Ewing spent 8 years as an assistant working with the Orlando Magic and Houston Rockets working with head coaches Jeff and Stan Van Gundy.
The Hall of Fame big man turned down the Knicks offer to coach their D-League affiliate, the Erie Bayhawks last Septemeber because he felt he had paid his dues in the NBA. Guess his buddy, Charlotte Bobcats owner, Michael Jordan agreed.
Ewing will join the coaching staff of new Bobcats head coach Steve Clifford.
So I’m going to ask the question we all want to know… What is an “associate” head coach. What duties does it entail?
Meanwhile over in Detroit, Maurice Cheeks is being handed the keys to the Pistons franchise. The Pistons were 29-53 this season and own the eight pick in what’s considered a shallow draft.
And lastly, the ink isn’t even dry on Jason Kidd’s retirement papers and JKidd has already thrown his hat into the area to coach one of his old teams. Kidd is said to be the front runner to land the Brooklyn Nets head coaching gig. Previously held by Avery Johnson, who was fired after he won Coach of the Month last November. And then interim coach P.J. Carlesimo who got bounced after being eliminated from the first round of the playoffs.
