All you DirecTV subscribers can breathe a sigh of relief. Timer Warner and the satellite broadcaster reached an agreement to add the newly launched “Time Warner Sports Network” which of course owns the rights to Lakers’ games.
This was putting a dent in the local economy. Lots of Los Angeles area bars were unable to show the games. With more than a million subscribers, you can understand the pressure to reach a resolution. Terms of the deal weren’t released but it’s believed that Time Warner was asking for almost $4 per subscriber for the channel and it’s Spanish sister network, Time Warner Deportes.
By comparison, The YES Network in New York which carries the Yankees, charges about $3.00 per subscriber, per month. To put that in perspective, The Yankees are rated the third most valuable sports franchise in the world. The Lakers are ranked 35th.
