JR Smith fined $25K for posting “lewd photo” on Twitter

Saturday night the NBA announced it’s fining JR Smith $25,000 for posting THIS PHOTO of Tahiry Jose in his hotel room in Milwaukee on Thursday.

Friday after the Knicks Game, JR gave a statement apologizing for posting the photo.

“I didn’t know it was going to be as big deal as it is now,” Smith said after the Knicks’ loss at Milwaukee on Friday. “I definitely regret it. It takes away from our team. Anytime I do anything that takes away from our team, I’m definitely going to regret it.”

While I thought posting the photo was tacky and a tad childish (dude you’re almost 27 and have been in the league for 8 years, you are supposed to be pulling chicks) I think the fine is excessive. I thought the situation was more amusing than causing harm to others. Well, maybe Tahiry is harmed but she’s an “urban model” most of her photos are booty to the camera but anyway.

But really, it seems like the NBA was making an example of him. Players post links to stuff that’s more explicit and lewd than that photo was and nothing is said.

Bigger than the loss of the $25K, JR lost his tatted soul mate Britanie Girard. He seems sad about that too.

The lesson here kids. If you have to do dirt, keep it low. Don’t hand over confirmation.
