Ex-Net Shawne Williams arrested for weed and cough syrup in Memphis

Former NBA 2006  first round draft pick Shawne Williams was busted in Tennessee this week for possession of weed and intent to distribute a controlled substance.  According to TMZ, Williams was parked in his Porsche  Panamera in front of a Cricket Wireless smoking a blunt when cops on patrol smelled the weed smoke from the vehicle.

When the cop approached the car, the person inside — Williams — reportedly said, “Officer I ain’t gonna lie to you, there’s a blunt in the car and some syrup.”

The cop searched the car … and reportedly found a partially smoked blunt, another blunt that hadn’t been smoked, and a bottle of codeine cough syrup (for which he did not have a prescription).

Williams was arrested and charged with possession of weed and codeine cough syrup – not prescribed to him- with intent to manufacture, deliver or sell.

Williams was released on Friday afternoon and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday morning. Drafted by the Pacers, he most recently played with the Nets last season for 25 games.
