ESPN Suspends Stephen A. Smith

ESPN has announced they’ve suspended Stephen A. Smith from “First Take” for a week, behind comments he made regarding women and domestic violence last week.

While discussing Baltimore Ravens running back, Smith stated that there were things women could do in order not to “provoke” a man into violence. Smith apologized twice on Twitter, and then once again during Monday’s episode of “First Take.” Ironically enough, Smith’s suspension, 5 days of work, is shorter than Ravens Ray Rice’s two-game suspension. Whoopi Goldberg, co-host of “The View,” defended Smith on air Tuesday, stating that “if you hit a man, don’t be surprised if he hits back.”

Stephen A. Smith is also leaving ESPN radio. In an unrelated move that was announced last week, Smith will be getting his own show on satellite radio. Smith will join SiriusXM’s “Mad Dog Radio” channel.
