The Lakers are reportedly in conversations with the New York Knicks to trade for guard Iman Shumpert. The Lakers have lost all their point guards to injuries this season and could use some help at the position. There is also an interest in Tyson Chandler – who comes with an additional year on his contract at $14.5 million.
No trade is imminent, and sources say the Lakers’ call was more about doing their due diligence; it’s well-known Shumpert is available. The Lakers are unlikely to make a deal before the end of their current four-game trip, which concludes Tuesday night in Memphis. …
Sources say the Lakers also are interested in another Knicks player — center Tyson Chandler. The Lakers did not inquire about Chandler when they called about Shumpert, but they are weighing whether to propose a Pau Gasol-for-Chandler trade, according to sources.
Pau Gasol and Mike D’Antoni have been going at one another in the press over playing time the last few days. Gasol hasn’t looked mobile this season, with Kobe suggesting Pau needs to lose some weight. Pau is a free agent next summer.
