Anthony Davis suffers sprained ankle, out for London Olympics

The injury bug is hitting Team USA hard. Fresh off of his selection as the number one pick in the NBA draft. Newly minted New Orleans Hornet, Anthony Davis will likely have to bypass his shot to play for Team USA this summer in the Olympics. Davis suffered a severely sprained ankle in a workout for the Hornets Saturday.

Anthony Davis would have been a strong candidate to make Team USA’s final roster. Davis, 19, had been invited with several players to work out for Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski prior to a July training camp in Las Vegas, but the injury has likely left the Hornets – and Davis – not wanting to risk the young star’s participation, sources said.

Derrick Rose, Dwight Howard, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh all took themselves out of contention for Olympic gold due to injuries. The positive side with players like Chris Paul, Kobe Bryant, Russell Westbrook and LeBron James still involved, I’d say our chances are still HIGH!
