Boxing legend Hector “Macho” Camacho taken off life support

Boxing legend Hector “Macho” Camacho was taken off life support by family members following a shooting incident that took place on Tuesday in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. He was 50 years old. Camacho’s colorful career began in the 80’s where he was a three-time world champion with a record of 79-6-3 that included 38 knockouts.

Camacho’s titles came in three weight classes – super featherweight, lightweight and junior welterweight. He won his first world championship in 1985 and his last in 1991. His final match came in 2010

There was always the specter of street life in Camacho’s life. During the highlight of his career, there were reports of Camacho battling drug addiction and later several arrests including attempted burglary and possession of ecstasy. There were nine bags of cocaine found on the driver of the car, Mojica Moreno and one open bag inside the vehicle.
