Boxer Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero arrested on gun charge in New York

30-year-old WBC welterweight champion Robert Guerrero was in New York to promote his May 4 fight against The Money Team’s leading man, Floyd Mayweather Jr. Perhaps “Ghost” was feeling a little on edge because he attempted to bring .40-caliber handgun and three unloaded magazines onto his flight Thursday from John F. Kennedy International Airport.

So here’s the thing, Guerrero is licensed for the piece in California. But, it’s illegal in New York to carry a weapon that isn’t licensed there. That explains how he got the gun into NYC to begin with but, his lack of foresight doesn’t seem to matter too much with the DA.

Queens Dist. Atty. Richard Brown had this to say on the arrest:

“I hope that Mr. Guerrero fights better than he thinks,” Brown said in a statement. “For anyone who hasn’t gotten the message, let me be crystal clear: You cannot bring an unlicensed weapon — loaded or unloaded — into this county or this city. And if you do, you will be arrested and face felony charges.”

Ghost was released and returned to Vegas on Thursday to continue training. If convicted, he faces up to 4 years in jail. His first scheduled court appearance is after his May 4th fight against Money May, for May 14th.

The lesson here kids, always check the local laws if you plan on bringing contraband on a trip. Chances are good, if you have to be licensed to have it in your own state, you probably do in another as well.
