Former NFL WR Laveranues Coles suing to get engagement ring back

If an engagement is broken because the man was cheating, does he deserve to get the ring back? Former Washington Redskins’ wide receiver Laveranues Coles says yes, and he’s willing to sue to make that happen.

Coles wants his 5.6 karat diamond ring worth $240,000 returned from his ex, Kenda Fairchild. Last March Fairchild discovered Coles was cheating, and called of the engagement three months later in June.

So Coles sued in Fairfax County Circuit Court. And on Friday morning, he won round one of his quest, overcoming a pre-trial request to dismiss the case by Fairchild’s lawyers, who cited Virginia’s “heart bomb” statute, which says that “no civil action shall lie or be maintained in this Commonwealth for alienation of affection, breach of promise to marry, or criminal conversation.”

Coles Ex-fiancee says she broke off the engagement after seeing photos of Coles with another woman while on vacation.  Kenda is a party promoter in the DC area. The two had been dating since 2003 and became engaged in 2008.

Listen, if you cheat, you just have to take the “L” as far as I’m concerned. Hope the new chick was worth a quarter of a million, because that’s what it cost you.
