Magic Johnson offers LeBron James $1 million to participate in Dunk contest [video]

Lebron-James-dunk

LeBron James has been in the league for 10 years. During that time we’ve watched him do some amazing stuff on the basketball court. The one thing we haven’t seen is King James in the dunk contest. He’s hinted, he’s teased but ultimately said that he doesn’t think he’s a creative dunker, he’s not into the props and all of that and has no plans to participate in the event at All-Star weekend.

That should’ve been the end of the discussion, right? Not in today’s 24-7 news cycle. Once people saw the mini dunk-out the Heat were engaging in before games with LeBron doing better dunks for fun in pregame than the winners of the past two Dunk contests, people wanted more. Including Magic Johnson. Friday night on ESPN’s pregame telecast, Magic said he’d put up $1 million of his own money to convince LeBron to get into the dunk contest.

Winner take all, get Blake Griffin and a couple of other high flyers in there for a cool million… I wonder if that’s enough motivation. Maybe make the rules  limiting prop dunks to one round and one or two other rounds with just straight up dunks. Would that bring the excitement back? LeBron makes around $15 million a season from his NBA contract plus roughly another $25 million in off the court stuff but still, everybody likes to have a little extra spending cash. Wait, is Magic allowed to offer that cash incentive? Maybe one of his many businesses can be a partial sponsor.
