Dwight Howard’s season and the Orlando Magic’s post season dreams both ended today. Per ESPN, Dwight Howard will have back surgery on a herniated disk on Friday and miss the remainder of the season. It also takes Howard out of contention for Team USA this summer.
The announcement comes during a time that there have been reports Howard told Magic owner Rich DeVos that he didn’t want to play for Magic coach Stan Van Gundy. Which of course is a sticky subject after the awkward press conference that took place a few weeks ago.
It’s sad that his season ended this way. It’s also a shame that he’s not locked anywhere outside of next season. Back issues can be tricky. Heading into another uncertain season, Dwight’s back rehab adds another layer to his impending free agency maze.
