The worst season in the Los Angeles Lakers history is almost in the books. As the Lakers limp towards the finish – losing another player, Kent Bazemore, to season ending injury, rumors are spinning about who will be the coach next season. Monday night before the National Championship game, former Kentucky Wildcat and NBA player, Rex Chapman dropped a rumor on Twitter regarding who he says the next Lakers head coach will be. UK’s head coach, John Calipari.
Was messin’ ’round on Sat nite re: Cal. But word is – win or lose 2nite – it’s a #DoneDeal …Cal 2 La-La-Land 2 coach Mamba’s Lakers. #NoBS

The Lakers of course have come out and denied it. Coach Calipari denied it as well following UK’s defeat to UConn. Chapman didn’t reveal his source, but he is an alum and a former NBA exec. Time will tell soon enough.
Lakers spokesman John Black on Rex Chapman’s Calipari report: “I spoke to (GM) mitch (Kupchak) and he said there is no truth to it…”

Black: “Mike (D’Antoni) is our coach & there have been no conversations that have discussed any specific names about anyone to replace him.”
