You think you’ve made it. You meet the man of your dreams, he’s a professional NFL player. He pops the question to you with an amazing VS2 10-carat ring worth $785,000. But then something goes amiss and you guys break up. Next thing you know, your pro athlete ex is suing you for the engagement ring… what??
That’s what’s happening to Erin Marzouki, the former fiance of Buffalo Bills ED Mario Williams. Williams is suing Marzouki for the ring and other damages basically claiming that she was a gold digger who never planned on marrying him and was just using him for money and gifts. Erin broke off the engagement in January of this year, less than a year after Williams proposed.
Hmmmm it was all good until she broke up with him. From all indications, he’s not having money issues, Mario signed a six-year deal with the Buffalo Bills in 2012, worth up to $100 million, with $50 million guaranteed.
Lesson, men can be bitter too. You think a scorned woman is bad. NOTHING beats a scorned man. NOTHING.
But in all seriousness, I was always told that if the woman breaks off the engagement, she’s supposed to return the ring. There are some exceptions to that but generally, that’s the rule.
