LA City Council & AEG sign agreement for NFL stadium in downtown LA

LA is one step closer to having an NFL team. The Los Angeles city council unanimously approved plans to build Farmers Field, the proposed $1.5 billion football stadium will be located in downtown LA next to the Staples Center and LA Live complex.  Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, council member Jan Perry, and AEG president and CEO Tim Leiweke officially signed the implementation agreement Wednesday.

The caveat, AEG can’t break ground until an NFL team has been secured.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell sent a memo to all 32 teams in July stating that any franchise interested in relocating for the 2013 season must apply between Jan. 1 and Feb. 15 of that year, and prove it has exhausted all attempts to remain in its current location.

Who wants a shiny new stadium in the sports and entertainment capital of the world??
