Adam “Pacman” Jones ordered to pay $11 million to victims of 2007 strip club mele

In 2007, NFL cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones was famously involved in a strip club altercation during a party celebrating the NBA All-Star game in Las Vegas. Now, a Nevada jury has ruled that Jones was responsible for the injuries suffered by two security guards who were working that night and ordered him to pay $11.6 million to the victims, and to the wife of one of the victims.

Thomas Urbanski, who was paralyzed from the waist down as a result of the shooting, was awarded $9.6 million. He wife was awarded $750,000 for loss of marital relations, and Aaron Cusworth, the other victim, was awarded $1.3 million.

The shooting occurred at the Minxx strip club in Las Vegas on February 9, 2007, and was made famous by Jones’ intention to “make it rain” with thousands of single bills. He became contentious when he believed that some of the dancers was taking money without his permission. A fight ensued that went outside the club, and that’s when Urbamski and Cudworth were shot.

I always wondered if Jones let the dancers know the singles were for appearance only. Jones is set to speak at the NFL rookie symposium and this further solidifies why that’s an excellent idea. In addition to all the other drama that has surrounded him, having to pay for the mayhem unleashed just because you wanted to “look” like a baller but not carry out on the act is an important lesson.

Now he’s bearing the responsibility of a man unable to satisfy his wife and the actions of others in the club that he may not have known. I’m not one of those people who believe athletes shouldn’t go out etc. etc but I do think they absolutely have to be more mindful of their actions and who they’re rolling with. When it all pops off, the one with the most money is who people will come for.
