Birdman & Cash Money jumping into the Sports Agency biz

Looks as though Jay Z is still an inspiration amongst his peers. Everyone knows Lil Wayne is a huge sports fan. Now it appears that his mentor, “Birdman” and his Cash Money Records have plans to open a sports agency.

Cash Money Records may be getting into the sports game. The famed record label–home to Lil Wayne, Drake and Nicki Minaj, to name a few–has filed a legal request to trademark the name Visionaire Sports Group, according to government records obtained by XXL. The trademark request filed October 25 covers the following: “Sports agency services, namely, management, representation and promotion of professional athletes; promoting sports competitions and/or events of others; promoting the goods and services of others by arranging for sponsors to affiliate their goods and services with athletes; talent agencies; arranging personal appearances by persons working in the field of sport … .” The trademark is listed as owned by Cash Money Records, Inc., under the care of law firm Pryor Cashman LLP.

Please don’t attempt to make Sports Agencies like record labels and clothing lines in the 90’s. Everybody can’t jump on board because it’s trendy. Find your own angle. Details are still sketchy so I’ll keep my eye on this one for you.

Stiletto Jill who are you to tell someone what they can do with their money. So it’s now trendy for people of color to start taking control of their own financial destiny. Clothing lines of the 90s came about because certain powers that be were not interested in investing in the HipHop culture line demography so they just developed their own like FUBU, Sean John, Kani etc. Turns out it was very profitable. Same thing with having to launch their own labels in order to get the music played. Thi bigger labels would green light projects so they had to take matters into their own hands so to speak. With sports being a billion dollar industry having strong ties to music and clothing it’s only goo business savvy for major players in the game to parle themselves into that arena. It’s evolution wonderful?

And there were also those artist whose label charged them up for costs relating to some of those deals. There were plenty urban clothing lines that only consisted of a t-shirt. I am all for growth and expansion but do it for that and not just because its what’s hot now.

Um, just like all of the businesses that sprung up during the internet craze looking to be millionaires overnight…this is just the nature of free commerce. How many nail salons or restaurants are on a single street in certain areas?
Your theory seems to paint a picture of a trend within a particular circle which is not the case at all. Case and point Percy Miller(No Limit) was the ONLY label at the time to represent a sports entity (Ricky Williams). The total fiasco of that situation is maybe why others never attempted until recently. The sporting industry is a whole other animal all together and it takes more than just putting pen to paper in order to get started. On a side note. I can give you a long laundry list of well known A-list artist who had partial owners of a sports teams at some point. The key operative word here is HAD.

Because the Canadian government isn’t nearly as corrupt as the US govrnment.
