Cleveland Cavs & Lakers discussing trading Andrew Bynum for Pau Gasol

Bynum-Gasol

Could Andrew Bynum be headed back to the land of purple and gold? Per ESPN.com, the Lakers and Cavs are in light discussion about potentially sending Pau Gasol in exchange for Bynum. For the Lakers, it would provide the opportunity to shed salary by waiving Bynum. That would save the Lakers $20 million.

By trading Gasol in a package for Bynum and then waiving him, the injury-ravaged Lakers could save more than $20 million in salaries and luxury taxes, which could help them maintain financial flexibility heading into the next few summers. A Gasol-Bynum trade would have to include at least one other player and perhaps other assets from Cleveland.

The Cavs were reportedly interested in Gasol last summer. The Chicago Bulls are also reportedly in the mix with the Cavs for Bynum. No moves are expected to happen anytime soon. Bynum is currently on indefinite suspension from the Cavs. Pau Gasol has missed the last three games with the Lakers due to an upper respiratory infection.
