On Sunday, former NBA All-Star Gary Payton, Louisville Cardinals head coach Rick Pitino and 10 others were inducted into the “Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.” This was the second straight 12-member class, the largest in the history of the “Hall.”

Also honored; Jerry Tarkanian, 83, who led UNLV to the 1990 NCAA championship, and Guy Lewis, 91, who took Houston to five Final Fours.  Bernard King, who averaged 22.5 points in 15 NBA seasons with five teams; North Carolina women’s coach Sylvia Hatchell; five-time WNBA All-Star Dawn Staley; former Knicks guard Richie Guerin; former NBA deputy commissioner Russ Granik; and Oscar Schmidt, five-time Olympian for Brazil. E.B. Henderson, the man that learned the game of basketball at Harvard in 1904, and then introduced it to African-American students in Washington, D.C., and four-time ABA Indiana Pacers All-Star Roger Brown were both enshrined posthumously.

Gary Payton is the only NBA player with 20,000 points, 8,000 assists, 5,000 rebounds and 2,000 steals. GP also took a moment to remind media that he and his former Seattle Sonics teammate, Shawn Kemp are the original “Lob City:”

“When people say Lob City or stuff like that, we were the original Lob City,” Payton said. “We don’t want to call it Lob City, we just called it Reign Man and the Glove.”
