Dallas Mavericks Waive Delonte West

And just like that, the Delonte West era has come to an end in Dallas. The Mavericks waived West on Monday to make room for center Eddy Curry – marinate on that for a second.

It’s said that the Mavs believed West would be a bad influence on the younger players in the locker room.

There was a belief that West, an eight-year veteran who was a valuable role player for the Mavs last season, could not handle the frustration of having to settle for another one-year, veteran-minimum contract.

West became expendable after the Mavs added Darren Collison and OJ Mayo in the off season. Dirk Nowitski and Shawn Marion are now the longest tenured Mavs and the last remnants of their 2011 championship.
