Lakers confirm Dwight Howard won’t be ready for training camp or start of preseason

I’ve been voicing the same concern regarding Dwight Howard- whether it was Dwight with the Lakers or elsewhere – what’s up with his back? As expected, the Lakers had an evaluation of Howard at their facilities this week and confirmed that he will miss both training camp and preseason.

But this shouldn’t be cause for concern. Per the Lakers, there are no set backs.

Howard began working with Lakers head trainer Gary Vitti and head physical therapist Dr. Judy Seto this week as he continues his rehabilitation from April back surgery. The Lakers’ training staff has been working alongside Howard’s personal trainer, Bryan Meyer.

Howard’s current physical therapy consists of core stabilization, upper- and lower-body strengthening, light running and shooting.

The Lakers have a lot of new pieces including new members to the coaching staff. There will be a learning curve but I expect we’ll start to have an idea as to how things will come together by December or January.
