Atlanta Hawks New Owner, Alex Meruelo Becomes NBA’s 1st Latino Owner

The Atlanta Hawks finally have a new majority owner after years of in-fighting amongst the previous ownership group, Atlanta Spirit, LLC. The new owner is Los Angeles area-based businessman Alex Meruelo, owner of The Meruelo Group. This also marks the first Latino owner in the history of the NBA.

Meruelo, 48, is the founder and owner of a closely held company that owns pizza restaurants, construction firms, real estate, a Los Angeles television station and a Nevada casino and hotel. Meruelo was born in New York to Cuban parents and was raised in California.

It’s good to hear that there is new owner of Atlanta Hawks it means that there is a new boss in town. They better get along with each other and continue to train harder for the next season of the playoffs.
