BET added a twist to their annual awards show this year. “The BET Experience” was a three-day festival put on between the network and AEG. Downtown Los Angeles was where you needed to be to take in the events, which took place at the LA Live complex including Staples Center, the Nokia Theatre and JW Mariott Hotel. The cost for the weekend’s activities ranged from free to mini mogul status. Beyonce kicked the weekend off at Staples Center with the opening of her “Mrs. Carter Tour.”
The Sprite Court which hosted a dunk contest and celebrity game that included artist like Chris Brown, former NBA player Gilbert Arenas, singer Tank, Matt Barnes, Gloria Govan, “Suger” Shane Mosley and more.
Plus, 106 & Park LIVE, Film Screenings, BET Revealed Celebrity Panels, and a Taste of Soul food which included legendary LA eatery, Harold & Belle’s.
I took in the “Rich Forever” panel on wealth and financial well being. The panel featured Master P, Janice Bryant Howryod, CEO of Act 1.
I also witnessed “Adorn” singer Miguel get rushed in the lobby.
The BET awards weekend also included a few sideline activities. There were several brunches, Beauty bars and day parties.
I attended the “Beauty Is Love” lounge at Andaz Hotel during BET Awards weekend. Presented by Clairol Professional and hosted by actress Lauren London. The event featured cocktails courtesy of SKYY Infusions Moscato Grape to help relax you for beauty services ranging from hair, nails and make up to introducing you to a new make line being launched by celebrity make up artist, AJ Crimson.
Also on Saturday night, Debra Lee held her annual Pre-BET awards dinner at Milk Studios. I hit the red carpet for chats with designer, Angela Simmons, singer Elle Varner and star of BET’s “The Game,” Jay Ellis.
I also spotted Rachel Johnson from BET’s “Caribbean Rhythms” back in the 90’s.
