Sunday night, Common and John Legend won an Academy Award for “Glory,” their song featured in the civil rights era drama “Selma.” The two artists gave moving speeches about the current state of America in the 50 years since the events in the film took place.
Following the win, they of course, hit up the Vanity Fair party. Common was spotted letting tennis ace Serena Williams manhandle his Oscar. The two dated off and on for about three years, beginning in 2007.
Serena posted this photo to her Instagram feed with the comment, “Tried to run with Common’s Oscar, but I got caught.” Of course, she later deleted it and replaced it with this

“Nina Simone said it’s an artist’s duty to reflect the times they live,” Legend said, referring to the singer and activist. “Selma is now because the struggle for justice is right now.”
“This bridge was once a landmark of a divided nation but is now a symbol for change, this bridge was built on hope, welded with compassion.” – Common
