Continuing with the AAFCA roundtable series, Jill Munroe talked with the co-stars of NatGeo’s “Genius: Aretha” about the care that goes into portraying a real-life person in a biopic. The series stars Cynthia Ervio as legendary singer Aretha Franklin. It also stars Patrice Covington (“The Color Purple”, “Ain’t Misbehavin’”) as “Erma Frankin,” Rebecca Naomi Jones (“Oklahoma!,” “The Big Sick”) as Carolyn Franklin, Aretha’s sisters, and frequent background singers, who supported and collaborated with their famous sibling. Steven Norfleet (“Watchmen,” “Dynasty”) as Cecil Franklin, Aretha’s older brother, who stepped in as her manager.
