Amar’e Stoudemire has made it very clear. In addition to being the King of New York basketball – or co-King, however that works with he and Melo- he also plans on taking the fashion world by storm with designer Rachel Roy. Both recently shared their inspirations for the upcoming line as well as the logo and sketches:
“I was never a designer or anything like that, but as far as putting together what I was going to wear, I was a fashion rebel, always mixing it up,” said Stoudemire. “As long as I remember, I always did something with my clothes. I would slice up the bottom of my jeans so that they would look different. I would change the design of my shirt and add an extra layer. I would wear two different tennis shoes.”
Rachel Roy is pulling inspiration from supermodels who have an affinity for sports:
“What does Gisele wear when she goes to see her man [New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady] play? What would Kate Moss wear? Those images are the inspiration .”
The Knicks’ uniform will even factor as a motif throughout the line of casual dresses and separates, along with vintage-inspired NBA logos and stars, inspired by Stoudemire’s Star of David tattoo. The line will retail between $45-$250 when it hits Macy’s racks in September.
It is EXTREMELY interesting that Amar’e decided to take his fashion plunge with a line for women. I suppose it worked for Nelly and Apple Bottom. I guess as a man all he has to do is picture what he likes to see a woman in, yes?
He appears to really be taking the line seriously and involving himself in the process, not just rubber stamping it. I really would like to hear his reasoning for the choice. It’s pretty genius though. Can’t wait to see the results.
