John Starks Reveals If Biggie’s “I Got a Story to Tell” Really Happened to a Knicks Player [Video]

Gather around youngins for a quick trip back into hip-hop and NBA history. Back in the mid 90’s, Notorious B.I.G better known as Biggie Smalls, dropped one of hip-hop’s most classic examples using the art of storytelling, “I got a story to tell.”

In it, Big told the story of how he hooked up with a Knicks player’s girlfriend. Allegedly this player came home during the middle of said interaction and Big robbed him, to keep the player from discovering his cheating girlfriend.

For years the rumor was that the player was former Knicks great, John Starks. Starks appeared on ESPN’s “Highly Questionable” on Tuesday and revealed that he’s not the mystery player, but he knows who it is.

“That wasn’t me,” he said. “First and foremost, I’m not 6’5″; I’m 6’2″, actually.” The height comment is a reference to the late rapper’s line on the Life After Death track where he says he was at the house of, “One of them 6’5″ n—as.”

The beauty of this track was that after Biggie rapped it, he then recounted the story back to his homies, in vivid fashion, like you were right there listening to it, but it was bar for bar with the rap. Great song.

For the record, I was told that the rumored player in question was Allan Houston. No word if it actually went down as proclaimed in the song, but that he and Biggie had a female conquest in common. hip-hop/sports folklore.
