Javaris Crittenton played three seasons in the NBA including stints with the Lakers, Wizards and Bobcats. Crittenton has been indicted on charges of murder. The former first-round pick has been charged with the murder of Julian Jones, an Atlanta woman, and the attempted murder of another man.
Jones was shot and killed in August 2011 while she was out walking with a group. Authorities claim that shooting and a second shooting were gang-related and likely in response to Crittenton being robbed earlier. The 25-year-old’s lawyer, Brian Steel, claims his client is not guilty.
Crittenton’s cousin Douglas Gamble is charged along with him.
Crittenton has had spots of trouble throughout his brief NBA career highlighted by an incident in 2009 involving teammate Gilbert Arenas and guns in the locker room. He also was accused of slapping his son’s mother while she was breast feeding.
