Knicks in the lead to land Steve Nash via sign-and-trade

Amar’e Stoudemire’s best years in the NBA were absolutely when he had Steve Nash as his point guard in Phoenix. Looks as if a reunion of that pairing could be happening soon as the Knicks look like the front runners to land Nash in a sign-and-trade.

Nash and the Knicks are in the critical stages of discussions on a three-year deal worth between $27 million-$30 million. The Knicks would send rookie guard Iman Shumpert and two players – including Toney Douglas and Dan Gadzuric – to Phoenix for Nash, sources said.

Shumpert was big for the Knicks before he tore his ACL in the playoffs. Good defender and young. But with the Nets reloading, NOW is definitely where the focus is.  Shumpert isn’t expected to be ready for the start of the season in November.

The Knicks will also be without the services of restricted free agent, Landry Fields. The Raptors have extended Fields a 3-year-$20 million contract. The Knicks aren’t expected to match this offer. Oddly enough, the Raps have also offered Nash a 3 year deal worth $36 million.
