Salute Jackie Robinson West Little League Team

The kids from Jackie Robinson West, a Chicago little league team that became the first all black team to make it to the Little League World Series championship since 1981.

The team lost to a team from Korea.

Let’s hope JJW’s run combined with Mo’Ne Davis’s showing in the same competition will bring more African-Americans back to baseball. Currently the MLB contains about 8% African-Americans. The league high was in 1981 when that number was 18.1%.

One of my earliest post I ever wrote for JocksandStilettoJill was about why I believe black kids were no longer participating in baseball as a sport. You can check that out HERE.
