Joe Paterno’s story is headed to the big screen with a legendary actor set to take on the role of the embattled late Penn State football coach. Al Pacino will star in the Brian De Palma directed film tentatively titled, “Happy Valley.” The film is based off of Joe Posnanski’s best-seller “Paterno.” The film will chronicle Paterno’s latter years at Penn State including the Jerry Sandusky sex scandal. Specific plot details are being kept quite for now.

This isn’t Pacino’s first go round as a gridiron coach. In 1999 Pacino starred in “Any Given Sunday” with Dennis Quaid, Cameron Diaz, Jamie Foxx and Lawerence Taylor.

This is one of my favorite moments from that film.

This will be Pacino and director, Brian De Palma’s third film together. The first two projects were “Scarface” and “Carlito’s Way.” There’s no current date slated for production to begin. Paterno based away in January of 2012.
