Rudy Gay announces engagement to girlfriend Ecko Wray [photos]

Congratulations are in order for Grizzlies forward Rudy Gay and longtime girlfriend Ecko Wray. The couple became engaged late last month and Rudy has since revealed how making that move has contributed to an overall maturity in himself and his game this season:

“It’s time for me to take control of my life,” Gay said. “It’s not just about basketball. It’s about me personally, too.”

“It’s easy for people to be there for you when you’re up. She’s been there since I didn’t have a (driver’s) license. She was driving me to practices,” Gay said. “When I didn’t have money, we shared. It’s time. She’s the one.”

The Grizzlies are off to their best start in franchise history at 6-1 with their lone loss coming at the hands of the Clippers. Tonight the Grizz face the scroching Knicks who are 6-0.

I pointed out Lebron won a championship after he became engaged. Dolphins Reggie Bush is having one of his best seasons since falling in love and starting a family. Having a good woman behind you can help you ascend! Don’t debate me on this!

Congrats to Rudy & Ecko. The couple have been dating since 2004. No date has been set for the nuptials.  Side note, should Ecko decide to hyphenate, her last name will be Wray-Gay (like Reggae) ok, sorry that just made me laugh. Carry on.
