Missing Ohio State football player found dead in dumpster

Kosta Karageorge

Prayers go out to the family, friends and teammates of Ohio State football player Kosta Karageorge. The 22-year old was reported missing the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, and was found dead near campus Sunday.

Columbus police announced they discovered Karageorge’s body in the University District, and they believe he died from a self-inflicted gun wound.

Karageorge was last seen in the early morning hours of Wednesday, Nov. 26., and his parents called Columbus police that evening after he didn’t show up to football practice and didn’t return to his apartment. A search had been ongoing since.

Karageorge, a fifth-year senior walk-on and a former Ohio State wrestler, had a history of concussions and his family was concerned he was suffering from the side effects of one that occured a month ago.

“He had some extenuating circumstances that night that lead us to believe he was upset,” Karageorge’s sister, Sophia, told the Columbus Dispatch last week, adding her brother had a history of concussions.

Karageorge’s mother, Susan, told a local NBC affiliate that he sent her a text message before disappearing that read: “Sorry if I am an embarrassment, but these concussions have my head all (expletive) up.”
