Stephen A. Smith says Chad Johnson brought some of this on himself by marrying Evelyn and chasing fame [video]

Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless had a conversation on Monday’s First Take regarding the incident between Chad Johnson and Evelyn Lozada. Stephen A.’s position was that considering Chad has never been in trouble with the law in his 12 year professional career, the Dolphins should’ve waited for more details to emerge before cutting him. Smith said that Chad brought some of this on himself with his quest for fame and the woman he chose to marry. Smith also brought up the fact that on Evelyn’s reality show, her “character” was often an instigator of violence – he in no way was implying that Evelyn got what she deserved, more so pointing out the outstanding circumstances that surround the case.

I agree with Stephen A. To add to that, I think it is important that we also start preaching the message to young women that they should also keep their hands to themselves. Just because a man isn’t supposed to strike you doesn’t mean he won’t if provoked. Not everyone has the same level of restraint. I am not saying that this is what happened between Evelyn and Chad. At the moment, most of what is out there is speculation. However, I think it’s important to address that as sometimes I think people are always of the mindset that a woman wouldn’t attempt to attack a man. I believe part of keeping our daughters safe from abuse is to also remind them that they shouldn’t think they can hit men and there not be repercussions as well.
